Lyrics

Letter from a Groundhog

Dear shadow, this is just a letter to inform you,
That I will not be coming round this year
Yes, it’s time to turn the tables, let the groundhog write the fable,
You might say the revolution’s finally here.

I’m taking it overground, No more upside-down digging,
Hiding from the light, Whether it’s sun or rain,
Or the throes of pain, I’ll keep you, shadow, in plain sight.

Dear shadow, here I must regretfully advise you,
On my Groundhog letterhead,
CC’d to all the ones who said,
Don’t rock the boat, don’t make a sound,
Stop making waves, stay underground:
That, I won’t be backing down this time.

It‘s no time to run from your shadow
This time I’m toeing the line,
Sometimes the truth can get lost in the light show,
But I know this shadow is mine. All mine.

Dear shadow, I don’t care about your six more weeks of winter,
That’s not gonna’ scare me this time,
I’ve spent years underground in these tunnels,
Some for love, some for battle,
Yes, I know my way around,

Dear shadow, so, in truth, I’m asking with affection,
To be under your protection, where all are free to choose,
Where you live, how you walk, who you love, how you talk,
Where a groundhog keeps his shadow by his side,

It‘s no time to run from your shadow
This time I’m toeing the line,
Sometimes the truth can get lost in the light show,
But I know this shadow is mine. All mine.

Here’s where the show begins, yeah, when the sun goes down,
Don’t let the bad guys win, Just drive them underground.
(It is time to face the sunlight, face the music, face my demons)
